■General overview | ||
Saitama Red Cross Hospital is working to provide high quality and valuable medical care for all people, including foreign visitors and residents, based on “the spirit of humanity and fraternity” of the Red Cross. Perinatal care, which is often used by foreign patients, has been established in cooperation with the adjacent Saitama Children’s Medical Center to support high-risk deliveries. In addition, as an advanced critical care center, the hospital has established a system where foreign patients requiring emergency medical care can visit a hospital with a sense of security by utilizing interpretation tools, etc. The website, displays in the hospital, communication tools, and various explanatory materials are arranged in English, and many staff members, mainly physicians, are fluent in English. When communicating with foreign patients, remote translators, translation apps, communication tools, etc., are utilized, making it possible to handle multiple languages. However, because patients’ family member interprets in many cases, there may be a high risk of mistranslation. Please consider measures to reduce this risk. As for translation, there was a discrepancy between the actual status and the manual, so the hospital needs to establish a system that can provide more appropriate translation services. As for the clinical pathway for which the foreign language version has not yet been introduced, if it is introduced only for major diseases, it will reduce the burden on the staff for handling foreign patients. It is desirable to be more precise in ascertaining the status of visits by foreign patients in detail and collecting a wide range of opinions from foreign patients. By accurately ascertaining needs and issues, the hospital is expected to make further improvement in the system to accept foreign patients as a core hospital providing foreign patients in the region with medical care. |
